Author: Rebekah Loper, Author of A-Zs of Worldbuilding

Rebekah Loper began creating epic worlds and stories as a child and never stopped. She is the author of The A-Zs of Worldbuilding series, and has a fantasy novella published in Beatitudes and Woes: A Speculative Fiction Anthology. She lives in Tulsa, OK with her husband, dog, two formerly feral cats, a small flock of feathered dragons (...ok, ok, they're chickens), and an extensive tea collection. When she is not writing, she can be found battling the elements in an effort to create a productive, permaculture urban homestead.

H is for Holy Days – Worldbuilding Religions

By Rebekah Loper, Author of A-Zs of Worldbuilding

Holy days might be considered some of the best things about being religious. Even now, in countries that have moved past established state religions, they are still a vital part of culture and society. You …

G is for Gods/Goddesses – Worldbuilding Religions

By Rebekah Loper, Author of A-Zs of Worldbuilding

Ah, deities… nearly every religion, just on the basis of being a religion, requires them, though many do not. I briefly touched on some of this in the original A-Zs of Worldbuilding series, and went …

F is for Fate – Worldbuilding Religions

By Rebekah Loper, Author of A-Zs of Worldbuilding

There are so many fun ways to play with fate when it comes to religious beliefs. Later on, we’re also going to look at prophecy and that will be connected to fate, but for now …

E is for Evil – Worldbuilding Religions

By Rebekah Loper, Author of A-Zs of Worldbuilding

What is evil, truly? This has been the discussion of religious debates and philosophy many times over, and I am not even going to pretend to try to give it justice at this time. The …

D is for Doctrine – Worldbuilding Religions

By Rebekah Loper, Author of A-Zs of Worldbuilding

Before I get to doctrine, there’s something we need to briefly cover which precedes it – theology. Doctrine is just a word for the set of beliefs held by an establishment, but it mostly refers …

C is for Cults – Worldbuilding Religions

By Rebekah Loper, Author of A-Zs of Worldbuilding

Some might say that every religion is a cult, and if that is how you want to treat religion in your fictional worlds, go for it! However, there are specific defining features to cults that …

B is for Bibles (and Other Holy Texts) – Worldbuilding Religions

By Rebekah Loper, Author of A-Zs of Worldbuilding

Before we delve too deeply into this topic, I just want to say one thing first: it is absolutely possible to create a religion without having some sort of sacred text or scriptures to go …
